In a matter of 3 hours you can go from one side of Costa Rica to the other, so so as to see as much as practical you will probably be moving around a bit. Should you happen to pass thru the capital, San Jose, be prepared for a busy town that sure is a tiny gritty but worth exploring. Museums, theatres, shopping, and glorious food will all contend for your attention as you navigate the loud streets that weave thru skyscrapers and standard massive town sights. 

The energy is palpable, so you may not find San Jose to be the place to realize the ultimate sense of relaxation, but it creates a nice contrast to your quieter escapades.
