A lot of the luxury all inclusive resorts are found on the north pacific coast in Guanacaste. You can reach these easily be flying to the Liberia airport (LIR airport) or flying to San Jose (SJO airport) and driving north about five to seven hours.
The Flamingo Beach Resort is located on a small peninsula that spits-out from Playa Flamingo. You are also a taxi ride away from many other great beaches, and 20 kilometers from the Pinilla and Papagayo golf resorts. This is not the biggest or most expensive all incusive resort in Costa Rica, but some say it is just right, with accomodating staff and a beautiful and clean hotel facility. Bear in mind, this hotel has only a 3.5 star rating, but it comes highly recommended by several guests. If you want to visit Costa Rica, on an all inclusive small budget, this might be your best choice in Costa Rica.
Westin Golf Resort, Costa Rica
The Westin Golf Resort can be found on Playa Conchal in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. The hotel feels luxury rooms, having a slight rustic flare, to give you that -Costa Rica- feel. The pool has a swim-up bar, which you could sit an have a cocktail. The wait staff around the pool are extremely helpful. The breakfast is four star quality. The lunches are great too, with tradition options such as pizzas, hamburgers, along side authentic Costa Rican cuisine. For dinner there are al la carte options including French, Asian Fusion, Italian and Mediterranean Restaurants. As the Spanish word -Conchal- or -Shells- implies, the sand on the beach is composed of millions of crush sea shells, making it very white, and soft to the touch. The hotel partners with some great tour operators, and you can go a variety of excursions, including zip-lining, crocodile and sunset tours. You can also take a 45 minute trip to Palo Verde, in which you have a chance to see some real Costa Rican villages and perhaps a monkey or two.
Hotel Riu Guanacaste,Costa Rica
Hotel Riu Guanacaste is found the Gulf of Papagayo, near a beach called Playa Matapalo (Dead stick beach). The everyone is all very friendly; but not overly friendly, and the resort is quite expansive. The pool has warm, very clean water and a nice bar, to have a refreshing Mojito. The grounds around the hotel are very lush green and very well kept. The beach was nearby and had very soft sand that you will find tough to navigate for someone older. For the adventureous at heart, it is possible to go ATV tours which let you ride throughout the tropical forest to the beach. You are also far enough north, where you could take a day tour to Nicaragua. If you do this, don't forget your passport along with your visa stamp!
JW Marriot Resort and Spa
The JW Marriott Costa Rica can be found at on Playa Avellana, Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Playa Avellena is rumored by locals to be really similar to Hawaii. You could also take a 30 minute trip to nearby Tamarindo, in which you have the hubbub of thriving beach town with shopping and nightlife. If you like to golf, the hotel is affiliated with the Hacienda Pinnilla Golf Resort. There is also tennis available. You are also about 17 KM from Las Baulas de Guanacaste National Marine Park, where you can watch leather back sea turtle nesting grounds, during the correct time of year. For surfers, you can economically rent surf boards, and surf great waves on Playa Avellana. In short, if you want an all-inclusive resort, with the ability to get out of the hotel, the JW Marriott probably offers the best experience in Costa Rica.
Rui Palace, Costa Rica.
The Riu Palace luxury all inclusive resort in Costa Rica is a very enjoyable place to stay for families, groups, weddings and honeymoons. The quality of service and atmosphere have awarded this hotel a 5 star rating. The staff are incredibly well trained to make your stay very comfortable and entertaining. All the meals that are served are great, with a lot of variety. You have a choice between Fuision Cuisine, Japanese, New York Steakhouse and Italian. The beach is about 80 meters from the hotel and it is quite private. Be careful of the dark sand! It gets very hot and you will need to wear sandals or risk getting a burn. To keep fit, you can jog throughout the hotel grounds. However, the fitness center is a little small and not very well equipped. This is found in a tropical climate, so if you don't like seeing little bugs on the floors or walls, I might suggest getting a room on a higher floor, although, this is no guarantee either.
Occidental Grand Papagayo
The Occidental Grand Papgayo is the only all inclusive resort not located directly on the beach. However, the hotel is situated on a peninsula that makes access to Playa Panama, to the north, and Playa Hermosa, to the south, a breeze. You are also a day trip away from some excellent attractions including: Las Baulas National Marine Park Santa Rosa National Park Guanacaste National Park Rincon de La Vieja Volcano
This is another hotel, which is all inclusive, that gives you decent in-house entertainment and food, but begs that you go outside of the hotel and explore the surrounding areas. Plan on lots of day trips and outside activities.
